star Matt Cardona tried to get Danhausen to “uncurse” him last week on “Friday Night SmackDown” when he stepped into the wrestlers laboratory.
Instead, Cardona was shocked when he touched one of Danhausens tools. He appeared to revert to his Zack Ryder persona for a split second. The Miz and Kit Wilson experienced similar fates on the show over the last month.
“You know what, ever since getting shocked in Danhausens lab, things have been weird,” Cardona told Fox News Digital. “My fist has been twitching. I live in now, but Ive had this urge to move back to Long Island. Ive been chanting, Woo! I dont know what s going on.”
Danhausen has emerged as one of WWEs biggest stars since he made his in February. His products are flying off the shelves, and hes “uncursing” teams to help them win championships â see New York Knicks and Carolina Hurricanes.
Cardona said he had a feeling that Danhausens popularity would take off once he got to WWE.
“I knew he would be in WWE. I followed Danhausens independent career. I wrestled him on the independents,” he said. “This guy is a self-made superstar just like myself and I knew if he ever had the opportunity in WWE that he would excel. I did not anticipate that it would be at this level. Hes mainstream. Im absolutely thrilled for him.”
Danhausen brings a vaudevillian-style character to the ring. He describes himself as “very nice, very evil.” And, if you wrong him, “you, are, cursed.”
Cardona told Fox News Digital that his character exemplifies the “E” in WWE.
“Because, at the end of the day, this is entertainment â World Wrestling Entertainment â and Danhausen is entertaining,” Cardona said. “Hes entertaining for people of all ages â kids, adults. He can do it all. And hes not just, you know, a comedy act. He also wrestles. He really can do it all.”
Cardona has not had too many wins under him since he returned to WWE earlier this year. Its why he wanted to go to Danhausen in the first place.
Still, he said, his focus is still on getting back into the WWE title picture.
“Ill be honest. I havent been doing that great,” he said. “Check my win/loss record. It has not been the best. Thats why I asked Danhausen to uncurse me. It . How about another New Yorker? Im grateful to be back.
“When I was on the independents, it was the best time of my career up to that point, but at the end of the day, the goal was to be the WWE champion, and you cant be the WWE champion unless youre in WWE. So, thats why I had to come back.
